Archives Services Preserves Data to Support Long-Term Semiconductor Needs

Providing insight and clarity through physical and digital data management

In today’s world, billions of data points flicker across servers every second. While most teams generate information, Archive Services at Rochester Electronics focuses on what comes next.

Established in 2014, Archive Services supports every department at Rochester Electronics, including Manufacturing, Design, and Test teams, by managing incoming supplier transfers that include intellectual property in various formats, such as schematics, equipment, and media, and by providing information upon request, both internally and externally. Archives Services captures and preserves the technical DNA of obsolete devices, ensuring nothing is lost to time.

Supporting the Customer

In the semiconductor industry, data is a complex, high-volume raw material, and our Archives Services team transforms decades of supplier documentation into a secure, searchable resource that fuels our redesign and manufacturing capabilities. When a customer needs a part that’s no longer manufactured, the ability to recreate or redesign hinges on the integrity of original data.

Archive Services ensures that:

  • Schematics and design files are preserved in their original form and made searchable for engineering reuse.
  • Test data and calibration records are cataloged to support product validation and quality assurance.
  • Supplier transfers, including intellectual property, are processed with precision, whether received as physical documents, aging magnetic tapes, or digital files.

Traceability documentation is cataloged and searchable to ensure authenticity from OCMs to our customers. This work enables Rochester Electronics to rebuild components with full traceability, meet stringent industry standards, and deliver solutions that are both technically sound and historically accurate.

Through meticulous metadata tagging, digital cataloging, and environmental preservation, Archive Services turns static records into a connected ecosystem accessible across departments.

  • SemiSearch, our internal digital archive, allows engineers and analysts to trace component histories, link related records, and retrieve critical documentation instantly.
  • Air-gapped RAID servers and secure backups protect sensitive data while ensuring long-term accessibility.
  • Physical preservation techniques maintain the integrity of aging media.

Archive Services ensures that both physical and digital records are preserved with the highest standards of care. Sensitive documents and magnetic media are stored in controlled environments to prevent degradation, using acid-free materials and specialized techniques when needed. Supplier transfers are now received electronically, with all data securely managed on air-gapped RAID servers and backed up routinely.

Our SemiSearch digital archive organizes records using industry-standard metadata, making technical information easy to find and trace. Access is protected in accordance with regulatory requirements, and our team maintains the capability to recover and process legacy formats as needed. By combining robust physical preservation with secure digital management, Archive Services guarantees that critical information remains accessible, reliable, and ready to support customer needs, now and in the future.

Whether it’s a redesign project, a manufacturing run, or a customer inquiry, Archive Services plays an important behind-the-scenes role in enabling Rochester Electronics to deliver authentic, reliable, and fully supported semiconductor solutions.
