ROHS Green Program
Lead (Pb) -Free and Green Product Initiative from Rochester Electronics - Industry is rising to meet the challenge of creating products that are less harmful to our lives and our environment. At Rochester, our goal is to keep one step ahead of these efforts. As we move ahead into a brighter, safer world, we are pleased to offer (Pb) lead-free and green product solutions.
Reasons for Lead-Free and Green Product - Over the years, global concerns have grown concerning the impact of chemicals (including lead) and other pollutants on our air and water … on all life. This concern has stimulated the introduction of legislation around the world that will help protect and preserve these important resources.
RoHS and WEEE Directives - RoHS (Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment) and WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) have been adopted by the European Union (EU). In 2006, RoHS banned the use of certain materials, such as lead, mercury, and cadmium in electronics sold in Europe. WEEE requires any company that sells their electronics products in Europe to set up collection and recycling systems for these goods. Similar laws have been adopted in California, Maine, and in China.
Rochester's Commitment - Rochester continues to work with our suppliers and contractors to provide the best lead-free and green product solutions possible. Rochester's Solution - At Rochester, commercial-grade devices are assembled using Pb free (lead free) materials and contain no polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE), or other prohibited materials deemed hazardous to the environment in accordance with RoHS standards. REI offers lead finishes with either pure tin plating or nickel palladium. Gold plating over palladium is also an available option.
Discontinued Devices - When a device is discontinued, and a customer turns to Rochester for continued manufacturing, Rochester can manufacture the part to be lead-free/green compliant. What about the devices that have been discontinued prior to the initiative? From Rochester's wafer bank of over 10 billion die, we can continue to manufacture the devices as fully lead-free/green compliant. Depending on customer demand, these may be available in stock or made to order.
Lead-Free and Green Part Marking Identification - Lead-free/green devices are identified with a "G" suffix on the part number.
Lead-Free and Green Packaging Identification - Lead-Free/Green devices comply with JEDEC labeling specification JESD97.
High Temperature Solder - Lead-free solders reflow in the +235°C to +245°C range with peak reflow process temperatures in the range of +250°C to +260°C. Rochester's lead-free devices are rated for this high temperature Lead-Free reflow.
