Company Overview
Founded in 1981, Rochester Electronics, headquartered in Newburyport, Massachusetts, USA, is the world's largest continuing manufacturer and long-term aftermarket support solution for discontinued semiconductors.
The Rochester Mission
Rochester Electronics' charter and mission have always been to provide a completely factory-authorized source of supply for discontinued semiconductors for unquestionable quality and reliability. Rochester is committed to providing the industry's most complete aftermarket support - from one piece to several thousand.
The Rochester Difference
Rochester Electronics is the only company in the world to be authorized by over 50 leading semiconductor manufacturers to support their customers' continuing requirements for obsolete parts. Through these strategic relationships, Rochester provides aftermarket support by offering more than 20,000 Rochester-manufactured devices, a wafer bank of more than 10 billion die, and a finished device inventory of over 5 billion parts.
Rochester is a proud member of the National Electronic Distributors Association (NEDA) and, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA). It is also a QML certified manufacturer and test lab by the Defense Supply Center of Columbus (DSCC), a U.S. government organization. Rochester is ISO9001-2008 registered and compliant.
Product Overview
100% of Rochester Electronics' finished device and die inventory is directly traceable to the original manufacturer or has been manufactured by Rochester.
The finished device inventory of over 5 billion is securely stored in ESD-protected and environmentally-controlled warehouses. All military-certified devices carry full certification of compliance to applicable specification.
Rochester manufactures more than 20,000 devices from a wafer bank of over 10 billion manufacturer-supplied die and Rochester-fabricated die using the original manufacturer's tooling and process information. Manufacturing flows include commercial, industrial, military temp, MIL-STD-883, SMD, QML, Space, and customer SCD.
Guarantee
Rochester Electronics guarantees products to meet the original manufacturer's specification and design, unless specifically noted.
Customers
Rochester's customers span a wide range of industries including: aerospace (Boeing, Textron, Honeywell), military (U.S. Department of Defense, Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics), contract manufacturing (Celestica, SCI/Samina, Teledyne), medical (GE Medical, Siemens, Phillips), space (NASA, Space Systems/Loral, TRW), telecommunications (Lucent, Cisco, ITT), utilities (Westinghouse, SC Gas & Electric), and more.
Customer Programs and Services
Rochester Programs and Services include:
Finished Inventory: Rochester is the premier authorized franchised distributor for finished devices received from the original manufacturer.
Wafer and Die Inventory: Rochester procures all available wafer- and die-level inventory, test programs, and test fixtures to the extent possible from the original manufacturer. Rochester completes the manufacture of die-level inventory to finished devices, then tests to, or in excess of, the original manufacturer's specifications. Products can be tested to standard- commercial-, industrial-, military-, or space-level test flows.
Device Re-Creation: In the event that the original manufacturer's device is obsolete, Rochester can initiate a program to replicate the required device with the authorized permission of the original manufacturer.
Bill of Materials (BOM): Customers can provide Rochester with a bill of material under non-disclosure agreement. Rochester will evaluate the parts list to determine if the device is currently active, is forecast for an obsolete notification, or is currently obsolete.
Long-Term Supply (LTS): These specialized programs are individually tailored to support each customer's specific requirements. The LTS program provides a secure, long-term solution for critical continuing requirements.
Rochester SPA Program: Through contract, Rochester will place devices into bonded inventory and release product only to the specific customer through a customized, comprehensive scheduled and managed program. This program effectively alleviates the problems that arise from unplanned EOL events during the course of a critical system's existence.
Anti-Counterfeiting Initiatives & Quality
In 2006, Rochester launched a comprehensive anti-counterfeit awareness campaign when the rest of the industry was convinced that the problem was not serious enough. Rochester initiated the formation of the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) Anti-Counterfeiting Task Force and organized a well-attended symposium with speakers from industry and government. In 2007, Rochester received the Chinese Reliable Electronic Component Supplier's Classification (RECS) by China's Ministry of Industry, a joint administrated program by the China Electronic Purchasing Association (CEPA) and the China Quality Association for the Electronics Industry (CQAE).
Rochester continues to lead the way in the fight against sub-standard and counterfeit parts by partnering with the SIA to distribute the "Official Authorized Distributor Directory." This guide offers a comprehensive listing of original manufacturers and their authorized distributors and how to contact them, emphasizing the fact that re-testing and screening is not as effective a protection as buying from an authorized source.

Management
Curt Gerrish, Founder, President and CEO
Gerrish founded Rochester in 1981 after 20 years at Motorola. His goal was to address a growing need for a reliable, continuing source of semiconductors that were being discontinued. As technology continues to accelerate, lifecycles continue to shorten, and devices are discontinued more quickly. Therefore, the need for a legitimate, reliable continuing source is more important than ever before.
